songbender part #59 – Aphrodite & Mickey Finn – BadAss

Well hello hello, dear ladies and gentlemen, as gentle as you may be!

So i was here these last few days, very much sometimes thinking about oh what the f should be the next one, these guys actually don’t know, even though i said it back in the day but of course of course, so we’ve been through like 60 songs without a problem and without touching the really big ones. Yay me. I guess. It’s not actually in my interest, if I look at it that way, but let’s not look at it that way right now, k? K.

SO, as this is a different SO than the one i started with, I actually had and have, and have and had, some ideas recently on what actually should come, and i had like at first 2 candidates, which quickly became 4 and it was like, pf, WTF am i even to WRITE to this one?

I mean for those of you who’ve been with us on this super journey of something that anyone would properly describe as actually noone gives a fuck, well, of course, we’re all here for you. And we had some plans for some beautiful songs, but really. But unfortunately, due to unforeseen events, that are and were and are on the horizon, we gonna go back to the everloving primitive crap of the jump up drum&bass right here.

These guys like movies just like we do, which, i mean, should be an absolute positive. While i don’t have the time right now to actually look up which movie these samples are from, akshually, yakkknow, it doesn’t even matter. Because in such a case, it rarely matters where it is actually FROM, what matters is whether it works, if it gives the vibe for the song, for the message, for the everything.

And yes, yes, this has been a writer’s fav for a looooong long time. And the bassline’s mixing seems ridiculous – and again, AKSHUALLY it isn’t, cause once again, for those who’ve been with us – this is not for 2026 audiences on various sound emitting devices. This was for the dancefloor, and believe me, this sounds pretty different in a DnB venue PA and your, erm, probably absolutely perfectly sounding thing you’re listening through right now. Yeah. Me? Convinced. That must be the perfect stuff and this song is mixed in a crappy way. Yes. (editor’s note: No.) Yeah, no.

If you akshually wanted something on the Urban Takeover vibe i talked so much about, or i guess i did, who knows, right? So anyway, this is the primitive jump-up dnb crap that i love so much. Yeah. This. Now go figure. Hee. Hee.

So like this is way more complex than anyone with a tiktok brain could imagine, but honestly, this was not even a big thing in its day. And that’s saying something. But to me, this is textbook, and something i learned so much from. I even used this song for a video from our university dedicated majors’ day, which, hah, has its own story, on its afterlife (pff, dear god), but you know, this primitive-ly sounding something is actually MASTERFULLY written, and the whole song is exectuted in a perfect way.

And I will even stop right here and right there, and only say: man, fuck. These dear Gentlemen that were committing this musical something, were on to something.

Please join me in congratulating these very humble people by trying to comprehend this song from the beginning to the end. If you had a particularly hard day, you may need another listen or two. Of course, only if you can make it. We would never take something for granted like that.

But holy crap man. On the proper PA this sounds different. Believe me, i’ve heard it. It was a long time ago. But yo. Long time, no sea.

thanks for tuning in and see you next time!

i got some good ones in the pipeline, just need the focus to actually write something. not easy. not anymore.
