#songbender part 53 – BT – Believer
Well helllllloooo there dear ladies and gentlemen, it’s been too long, again, for all of us, but hey, who cares, right?
The world is going through something which 90s’ parents would call, a “phase” right now, which means that idiotic dumbass mofos can kill us all in like 3 minutes, but hey, YOU VOTED FOR IT, so here we go!
And nothing says my appreciation for the current ongoings better than the next one I chose for this series, it’s number 53, holy mother of, yeah, i can’t think of anything either. So let’s just stick to what we have.
I figured we’ve neglected 4/4 and trance a little bit, which is unfair, and since it was made by a white canadian, it just HAS to be here to show dominance ok ok ok you get it I hope.
This is from a movie, and AKSHUALLY
not a bad one! nothing better to determine if it’s good or not than the fact that my wife said “er, yeah, it was, ok-ish” – which means this is like a good movie. trust me bro.
so it’s about some teenagers looking to score some shit for their party but as you can guess, things go wrong, but the direction and the whole setup of the movie is actually done pretty well, there are these overlapping time-things, that show you how many things are tied together and happening at the same time, and I shit you not, this was one of the fav movies back in the day.
And of course my canadian friend Brian (not the ice-skater guy from South Park, oh wait, you have no idea about that, well, that’s what Brian Boitano’d do) is only featured for like 10 seconds with this song which is supposed to be THE song at THE party with all the bells and whistles, and if only for the movie, this would be like a yeah-ok kinda thing.
But hey, trust me bro on this one.
This is nothing short of a “trance for dummies” kinda thing. And yeah, that may be you. Not the trance part, are you a trance?!!?!!? OMG DEPORT DEPORT
hah. ok. so let’s really focus now. trance is a genre, as i have said before, but not about trance but something other you can’t recall, nevermind, so it’s for the dancefloor. It’s for people to lose their shit, lose their conscience, lose their daily crap, and just focus on something rhythmic, something that builds, something that is otherworldly.
And MY GOD this canadian bastard knows how to do that!
Just focus on the little things. YEAH YEAH it’s 4/4 and dungala dungala and whatever. If you only hear this, this description is not for you.
Focus on how things come in with every single bar, there’s always something coming in. Something builds. And of course you will focus naturally on the girl who sings I’m a believer (and gee, this is NOT the monkees song from the 60’s, wow, right??) anyway.
Trance is about repeating patterns.
Which are patterns.
Repeating.
But not the same ones. Not all the time. They may seem like that but AKSHUALLY no.
(if it’s the same, it house, and that’s not for intelligent people I DID NOT WRITE THAT! I KNEW ALMOST 2 PEOPLE THAT WERE INTO house (the music, mind you) and the other one was ok-ish at least!!!!) DUH.
so my favorite part is the end, where it aaaalll comes together. this guy teaches you the melody and the beat in the first part, then takes your attention away with the breakdown in the middle, and then gets a killer effected 303 and then SLAMS it back in your face right at the end. And holy smokes, man, i have to tell you: just try this. You think it’s easy? you think it’s just a matter of this and that?
just try it. This is a masterpiece of a song right here. And there is NO WAY i’m skipping this one in the car, even though my family is not (yet) educated on the delicacies of trance (and no, i’m not saying this is the best trance song ever, i have plenty of other examples i can show and talk about but we’re looking at this one right now, ok? and we’re not that heavily into 4/4 anyway).
So, i hope you make it through the song and come back to it, it needs like 2 or 3 tries if you really want to grasp all the little things. Which you should. It’s worth it.
