#songbender part 35 – Tripswitch – Silver (Ott remix)
Good eeeevnin again, ladies and gentlemen! This time we are in for a special one, and not only because we are in a certain way are involving one of “the big ones” in terms that we are finally touching upon a remix made by the one and almost only true GOD of mine, OTT himself, but also because it has a special and funny coincidence that I need to tell you about.
So for the audience that doesn’t know me personally (which can be like up to 2 people maybe) will not find this interesting at all, I presume, but again, time for bearing with me with any bears you are able to find in your general area.
You see, the thing is that I loved this song from day 1 when I first heard it, and not because it’s a brilliant remix of an otherwise also brilliant producer, Tripswitch, about who you can read a bit here (not exactly contemporary writing but not easy to find any better – his newest album is fantastic by the way, and it came out last year, I think?) and not because of the aforementioned Ott remix, but it was somehow special. And I actually never really thought about why, until one day I got to accidentally listen to it three times in the car (not on purpose, just so it happened) – and when the third time the bassline kicked in (you are able to recognize that, i hope), I almost crashed the car, because it hit me. Not literally of course, there are very few people who get hit by a song coming towards you on the road. Rather, i realized what the hell I was missing all this time.
Because, you see, if you know my little punkrock band that I had for 16 years, you probably know our biggest hit that shook the universe and gave us world fame. Yes, that one, the one called Le Karate.
Now the funny part is that the bassline from this remix and the main riff of our song is almost identical, at least in the beginning, because then we both go into other directions but MAAAAN that realization was soooo great. And what a fkin coincidence this is…. I wrote that riff in 2000, this remix is from 2004, I don’t think there is any way that these would be connected, but just the coincidence, it’s sooo great.
I can not give you a sample of our own version, because i simple don’t have it online in any way, and i’m not going to put it out there, you just need to remember if you can
Oh but also, the reason i selected this one is that tomorrow evening we are going to be on stage again, for the first time since 2016, and this will probably be on the menu too.
Now, back to the remix, as it must get at least a few sentences, i mean it’s Ott. If it’s Ott, there is no need for any more words, though – just listen to it. How absolutely fucking perfect this is. And you can check the original song, which is great on its own – but the way Ott re-did it, i mean, this is the essence of everything a producer dreams to be. Everything is in it’s place, it’s not overdone, the pianos are so subtle, the bass remains on the same scale for the better part of the song, and then it just switches up 4 notes, and then back. And this is continued, and your attention is always kept up to the highest level. There’s acoustic guitars here, there’s all these echoes and reverbs, and… aaah whatever. I want to be able to do these things someday. If only. Eh.
So, i hope those of you who remember the Hurkatöltő song i referenced here had at least a good moment from this coincidental realization that happened to me some time ago, for me it has been a fantastic experience, I hope it happens to you too.
