#songbender part 31 – Mike Ink – Paroles

Welcome back dear gentlemen and that one lady that once clicked on a link and closed it after 3 seconds with a horrified face!

Today I need to make a confession: I tend to think a lot about what to put here as the next one, and with utmost confidence I am able to report to you that THIS was NOT actually the one that I wanted!

But still, here we go! And you may have a slight wonder in your brain about WHY exactly. Well, the thing is, that

I'M AFRAID EVEN I REALLY JUST DON'T KNOW.

But.

Once again, the sense of re-realizing (what a magnificent non-word) something that was not really realized back in its day.

So what I think happened with this song is, and now grab a bear near you and bear with me: so what i think ACTUALLY happened with this song is that in 1996, Kurt Cobain’s ghost woke up, shook its head, and said FUUUCK i don’t feel so good. And stumbled into Richard D. James’ studio, where he found noone, just a shitload of oldschool equipment, samplers, 303-s, stuff like that, and said: hey wait, this is all you have? ok, let’s make something on that (that other people called grunge, afterwards, of course).

And there you have it. I’m 100% positive this is what has happened. This is grunge on outdated electronic hardware, right there. Nothing more, nothing less. And tell me that it’s not brilliant.

No, you’re wrong, it actually IS brilliant. Simple, it’s 1996, remember? Not exactly the day of OOOOOOH let’s bring the world down with electro, not yet, at least. Hell, one of the BIG songs in nineteen ninety FUKKKING SIX was How Bizarre, from OMC. I mean, really. Kill me. That is one of the biggest pieces of CCCCC…CORN that i ever heard. And I LIKE THE 90’S POP, there is plenty of evidence on that, it’s out of the fkin question, it’s the one POP i love (and the 80’s of course but that’s different) – so kinda like this is the worst thing about it. But that one just makes me go apeshit. What IS that song. #@?>%$$#^?>%$^ Ah but I digress.

So, this is from Blech, AGAIN, yes, for those of you who have noticed, no, nobody did, ok, that’s fine, class, no problem, i’ll have a talk with your parents anyway. And I loved this one back in the day, because of the melody of the voice sample, you know? It is catchy, in a way, I think. Tried to do the research, did not really succeed on what that is, you might know by now, these are the things that interest me the most.

But the OTHER thing is, that this connection between grunge and electro, and the weirdness of it, is fairly new. I don’t think I would have made this same connection back then. But I guess when you are nearing 87 years old, these things start to pop up. And since nobody is interested about the stories I have from the War of 1812, I need to stick to these super-interesting and tiktok-generation-inviting brilliant ideas of mine.

Like changing the song I wanted to do next, and switching to another one, just because I heard it in the car once again and thought “haha this is just like the early shitty Nirvana on early shitty electro equipment”

(this whole post could have been written with this one sentence, and there would be no difference in your experience at all).

And this is why you had to read all this shit, for that one sentence. Welcome to modern journalism. Please like and subscribe.

Damn that Blech album is still kickin so much ass though. We’ll get back to some other ones i’m sure.

Until then, please stay tuned, tiktok needs your support.
