#songbender part 41 – Orbital – Copenhagen

welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, today we break the rules a little, as this song is WAY too recent to have this just like that, but due to recent happenings, it’s the perfect time and place for me to post this right now.

this is from their 2018 comeback album after a looong period of hiatus, and boy, it is so great. (the newer one is even better, but this was good enough at the time too!)

to quote wikipedia: Monsters Exist is the ninth studio album by Orbital, released on 14 September 2018 through their own ACP label. It is their first studio album in six years (their last studio album Wonky was released in 2012) and the first since they reformed for the second time in 2017. The title is shown in the earlier video for “The Box” in 1996 when Tilda Swinton glances at an array of TV screens.

now, i’m not going to analyze this time, well, at all, to be honest. because i don’t really think i need to. you either enjoy this, or not. Orbital is something you need to GROW to, this is not a pop band and all of the small gods be thanked for that. this is not for everybody. and not because it’s soooo complex or sooo groundbreaking, but you will NOT, i promise you, you will NOT notice the little things, the tendencies, the typical Orbital stuff, that makes a song an Orbital song, until you listen to these for like 8-10 times, and not necessarily repetitively, but by just taking your time and revisiting it again and again.

…..which is exactly what people, especially the young people these days do NOT do, so you either have a “HOOK” in the first 30 seconds, or you’re lost forever and good luck if you want them to come back to your song anytime soon.

I think i know a lot of words, but there are none which could describe how much i despise this INDUSTRY, this current “hit me with something i never heard and keep it up for like a minute but keep surprising me because otherwise i will move back to whatever the industry lords are pushing into my face every 30 minutes so NATURALLY i like those and not these obscure shitty ones that might have a meaning and are actually “ART” but i don’t want to think about music and understand it i just want something to take my attention away from my piece of crap life and pop songs are plenty enough for that” kinda thing that has been going on.

and now i sound like a fkin boomer, i know. you know what? i don’t care. there is simply not enough attention given to these things anymore. it’s like 20 seconds, tiktok, move on, oh that’s boring, to understand and recognize the patterns and melodies and be interested in HOW it was made, and things like that? NAAA BRO, we ain’t got time for that, we need to MOOOOVE OOOON, right?

pffff.

well anyway. So this is kinda leaving the 90s right here, but it’s for a reason, and let’s just leave it at that. It’s a good enough reason for me.

and it’s a great song, especially if you take the time, which, as said above, nobody does, just idiots like me. but that’s ok.

so please enjoy. if you want to see what Orbital looks like live, with their signature “lights-on-our-heads” setup, please check this video of the song, the sound quality is not great, so i just went with the official video, i very much like the animation that comes with it.

and, until next time, please subscribe to my onlyf…… what? no. just go do whatever you like. but in case you have feedback, don’t hesitate.
